Starting in the 1950's, the Rocker Subculture came about due to many coinciding reasons; the end of post war rationing in the UK, a rise in prosperity for working class youths, recent availability of financing for young people, an influence of American Popular music and a peak in British motorcycle engineering.
The Rockers were in direct conflict with the Mods and were often called 'Greasers' by them as an insult.
They were mainly centered around cafe racer motorcycles and Rock and Roll music. Rockers took what was a sport and turned it into a lifestyle, dropping out of mainstream society and rebelling.
They immersed themselves in Rock and Roll music and fashions and began to be known much for their devotion to music - they favoured 1950's to early 60's artists such as Elvis Presley, Bo Diddley and Chuck Berry.
